Obstetric fistula is one of the most serious and tragic injuries that can occur during childbirth. The condition typically leaves women incontinent, and as a result, they are often shunned by their communities. Sufferers often endure depression, social isolation, and deepening poverty. Only in Mozambique, there were an estimated 2,300 new cases per year, and almost only 500 of these women have treatment.
This is a humanitarian project for a medical expedition in Mozambique to bring countryside women fistula treatment and sexual education. We are 14 professionals going on a voluntary 10 days expedition, with 4 main goals:
- To offer fistula treatment for these women
- To teach local health care professionals
- To make a documentary
- To support Focus Fistula NGO
Focus Fistula is an NGO that for 3 years has been fighting to restore dignity to hundreds of women every year, in various areas of the country, and for this purpose, it has promoted treatment, training, and rehabilitation missions with international support from governments, organizations and internationally recognized teachers. Your support can help us to realize this dream.
During this 10 days expedition, all our team will be using a customized Mozambique Expedition t-shirt where we will identify the sponsor. After the trip, we will negotiate the documentary with Netflix, Amazon Prime, or another streaming service and the sponsor will appear in the credits.
No fee will be paid to voluntaries, but we are looking for support to pay their expenses.
