THE PERINEUM AND MENOPAUSE
Menopause is undeniably a phase of changes and challenges, without a doubt rehabilitating the PERINEUM muscles helps to go through this phase with fewer problems.
Certainly one of the biggest complaints that women have when they enter menopause is the loss of urine, that is, urinary incontinence.
At the same time, hormonal changes during menopause can also be the cause of organ prolapse. pelvic pain, in this sense, women complain that they feel a weight or a ball in the vagina.
However, it is not only the functional part of the pelvic floor that is affected during menopause. During this period, many women experience changes in their sexuality, as they feel their decreased sexual desire, they begin to lose lubrication and consequently feel lubrication a href=”https://www.perineo.info/en/dyspareunia/” target=”_blank” rel=”noopener”>pain during sexual intercourse.
Unfortunately, menopause is not a much talked about topic, so women find it difficult to find information that helps them go through this phase with more comfort and safety.
These women are undeniably left helpless, not knowing how or where to seek help for their intimate health and sexuality problems.
In this sense, I created this talk to provide more information and help in this beautiful and important phase of our lives.

ASSESSMENT IN UROGYNECOLOGICAL PHYSIOTHERAPY
Firstly, assessment is the most important part of a treatment in order to obtain the best results. Therefore, at the first consultation, all patients undergo a specific assessment that consists of anamnesis (questions about the clinical history) and examination of the muscles of the PERINEUM.
ACTIVE AND SERIES PERINEAL REHABILITATION
Finally, all of our treatments follow the revolutionary and innovative concept Active Perineal Rehabilitation and Series, developed by physiotherapist Dr. Laira Ramos, expert in this area. In order to offer fast and efficient, as well as lasting results.
KINESIOTEARAPY IN UROGYNECOLOGICAL PHYSIOTHERAPY
Definitely kinesiotherapy, also known as Kegel exercises , is the basis for the treatment of rehabilitation of the pelvic floor muscles. In this way, through the movement of contraction and relaxation, we are able to restore neuromuscular function.
BIOFEEDBACK IN UROGYNECOLOGICAL PHYSIOTHERAPY
Biofeedback is certainly a very important and indispensable instrument in order to obtain quick and efficient results. After all, using a computer, we can do the exercises in an objective and controlled way, so that the treatment is more complete.
ELECTROTHERAPY IN UROGYNECOLOGICAL PHYSIOTHERAPY
First of all, electrotherapy is a technique widely used in physiotherapy, and is therefore also indispensable in perineal rehabilitation. In this way, it promotes perineal perception, proprioception, normalization of sensitivity, improving the function of the PERINEUM muscles. However, it is contraindicated in pregnancy.
VAGINAL CONES
Due to their practicality, vaginal cones are the best way to complete perineal rehabilitation and, above all, to continue with exercises at home after the end of treatment. These instruments are part of the Active Perineal Rehabilitation protocol and are indicated for most patients. They are placed in the vagina, like a tampon, and must be supported by the PERINEUM, following the physiotherapist’s instructions.
STRETCHING IN UROGYNECOLOGICAL PHYSIOTHERAPY
In the same way as the other muscles in the body, the PERINEUM muscles must also have flexibility and stretch to be healthy and perform their function. Therefore, in perineal rehabilitation we have 2 techniques for this stretching: perineal massage and stretching balloon
VAGINAL DILATORS
Due to vaginismus, vulvodynia or a scar, some women are unable to have penetration, or are able to do so but with a lot of pain. Vaginal dilators help these patients to simulate penetration, being a very important part of these treatments.
NORMALIZATION OF SENSITIVITY IN UROGYNECOLOGICAL PHYSIOTHERAPY
It is likely that some patients will present problems with sensitivity, that is, desensitization techniques will be indicated to normalize sensitivity, either in regions where there is hypersensitivity and pain, or in regions where there is a decrease or absence of the sensation of touch. We use sponges with different surfaces or vibration in order to achieve this goal.
SCAR MASSAGE IN UROGYNECOLOGICAL PHYSIOTHERAPY
Occasionally, the scar has an adhesion or fibrosis, whether it is the scar from an episiotomy, laceration, cesarean section, or other surgeries. In such a way that this scar can cause pain during sexual intercourse or other dysfunctions. Scar massage is a quick and effective treatment in these cases, whether for the scar on the vagina or the scar on the vulva.
PESSARIES
Currently, we can use pessaries in the conservative treatment of prolapses </ a>of the pelvic organs and stress urinary incontinence, which may delay or replace the surgical procedure. These instruments are placed inside the vagina and support the pelvic organs. However, there are several different sizes and models, each suitable for a specific case.
HYPOPRESSIVE EXERCISES
In order to carry out rehabilitation of the abdominal muscles we use hypopressive exercises, they are part of the ancient practice of yoga under the name NALI, however they have been widely publicized and used in the practice of physical activity. These exercises are performed in order to work the transverse abdominal muscle without increasing intra-abdominal pressure.
